Hogjaw "Ironwood" review
Take some Skynyryd, add in a good dose of Shooter Jennings and top it off with some Alabama Thunderpussy and Nine Pound Hammer and you get Hogjaw, a kick ass southern rock band from Arizona. Close you eyes and smoke a bowl and you could swear you were seeing these guys with Molly Hatchet back in the day. Ironwood, their 2nd and newest cd, is dripping with beer drinking, bbq eating anthems. The opening track Rollin Thunder gets things started with a fast paced rocker that will have you singing the chorus before its half over. Blacktop is a more country tinged song that tells a great story, which a lot of these songs do. Other standout tracks for me are Ain't Never Gonna Win (Without a Little Bit of Soon) and Flathead, a fast paced tale of fishin, whose storytelling style reminds of of Manifesto by Shooter or Uneasy Rider by CDB. A great cd from start to finish, I imagine these guys would be a great live show too.
